A LETTER FROM JASON McGUIRE

It's been some time since last I've reached out to the church back home that gave me such support and love and I felt it was time to say hello.

Our move here has been full of both wonderful and equally terrible experiences. Since we've been here we've had some scary health related moments, had our car broken into and hit on two other occasions and been robbed at gunpoint outside our apartment. Yes, I know . . .that's what we thought! However, we've met some interesting people and opened a lot of potential for growth and fulfillment. I've found a job at Nova Southeastern University, a private university, that now pays for all my schooling -- about $13,000 per year, and will allow me to reach my degree in just under two years from now. Then they will also pay for my Masters or PHD, depending on my options at that point. The weather here is absolutely beautiful, like a brisk sunny fall day, and I'm told it will remain that way for most of the rest of our winter months here. I do admit that I'm already missing the Christmas feel of the snow and blustery winds. I may never get over missing that. People here laugh at me for it -- they think I'm crazy for having such thoughts.

I must confess that I've not yet found a church I feel comfortable with and am having a sense of drifting and longing for the type to community you have at Olive Crest. In all the issues that I've wrestled with emotionally I have to say I miss most (outside my family of course) a sense of community in faith. Perhaps I could ask you all to forward a few prayers to help comfort me when I'm needing it and to help us when we're confused and emotional while I try to allow myself to hear his calling again? We would appreciate your support and frankly, I think I need it.

Thanks again for all you've done to build up my life and for what you continue to do as a representation of where I need to focus my life with God. I hope and pray you have a wonderful Christmas Season filled with the abundant love and warmth of family and friends. Peace by unto you and yours.

Sincerely, Jason Mcguire

The Alpha Course

Monday Evenings
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A 10 week practical introduction to the Christian faith.

  • Dinner
  • Group teaching
  • Small group discussion
  • Weekend retreat

The Alpha Program is for those who wonder:

  • Christianity: Boring, Untrue, and Irrelevant?
  • Who Is Jesus?
  • Why Did Jesus Die?
  • How Can I Be Sure of My Faith?
  • Why and How Should I Read the Bible?
  • Why and How Do I Pray?
  • How Does God Guide Us?
  • Who Is the Holy Spirit?
  • How Can I Be Filled with the Spirit?
  • What Does the Holy Spirit Do?
  • How Can I Resist Evil?
  • Why and How Should We Tell Others?
  • Does God Heal Today?
  • What About the Church?

Alpha is for anyone . . . Everyone is welcome on an Alpha course and people attend for a wide variety of reasons. Some want to investigate whether God exists and if there is any point to life; others are concerned about what happens after death. Still other may have attended church on and off all their lives but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. People come from many different backgrounds, holding many different viewpoints -- but all come with the same objective: to establish whether Jesus Christ has any real relevance for their lives.
