Church Family HighlightsBy Hazel Gregg A THANKSGIVING PRAYER LORD GOD ALMIGHTY at this time of Thanksgiving we call to mind stalwart folk of years long past who braved the hostile seas to build in this land a home for peace and freedom. Chasten our hearts; we pray that being still their debtors, we may strive to pay the debt we owe them. Keep us from using our freedom to hold our brothers and sisters in bondage . . . And permit us no rest while any of your creatures are enslaved or mistreated. Empower us to be makers of peace at home, and abroad and allow us no ease while any peace is imposed by injustice. Ensure us that feeding on the valor of the past, we may ourselves become a new and valiant past for the future. Help us to be able to forgive those who are now trying to "take down" our precious UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. And please give our leaders and military personnel the knowledge that they need to be able to KEEP OUR COUNTRY FREE! We thank you GOD. AMEN. The first Sunday of November we celebrated All Saint's Day. Since we did this last year we had five to honor this year. Helen McClellen, Don Hatcher, Bernerd Norton, Francis Judd, and Robert VanBuskirk. This is always a very moving and beautiful time. If there are any of you that do not know about this service you should know that as a tribute to these person's lives -- someone from their family or a special friend is given a living red rose to place on the altar in honor and memory of them. Tribute was given to all veterans on Veteran's Day November 11, 2001. Trustees have had all the carpets in the upstairs of the Church cleaned. Some meetings had to be held in the downstairs to allow ample time for them to get dry before that were walked on. The Alpha group has started their meetings. The Spaghetti Dinner was a huge success. The United Methodist Men had to hurry and cook a little extra!! Charge conference was held in November during the regular Sunday service. Hazel Burgess insisted on cooking dinner for everyone on that day. So everyone that could stay went down to the basement and enjoyed some of her delicious food. She is a very good cook and everyone knows it. We think she works too hard at it but she insist that it is her form of recreation. She loves to do it. Thanks Mrs. "B"!
